For alternators on ambulances with high specifications, which have idle revs set higher than on ordinary vehicles, the diode may heat from prolonged idling because its maximum current is too low. If the diode is damaged from the heat, it will overheat from excessive current, and the resin parts of the alternator may melt and at worst this could result in a fire.

Correction: 
The alternator should be replaced with the factory approved replacement unit. If the vehicle requires additional wiring capacity after the replacement, the additional wiring should be installed.
