The front axle lacks strength in the area near the knuckle stoppers, and therefore the stoppers may crack if excessive stress is caused on the kingpin bosses, such as while the vehicle is turning. Such cracks may worsen as the kingpins rattle more. If this problem is left unattended, the cracks may grow, and in the worst case, either kingpin could separate from the boss, and the tyres could tilt, causing the vehicle to stall.

Correction:
The front axle should be checked to see whether it is the factory approved replacement unit, and if it is not, the front axle should be replaced with the one. Also, the maintenance standards should be updated with the new limit on wear of the holes for the front axle kingpin. Incidentally, it will take time to supply all the factory approved replacement units, and therefore as a temporary measure, the holes for the kingpins should be inspected, and if a crack is found, the front axle should be replaced with the factory approved replacement unit, otherwise the replacement should be carried out at a later date.
