RJ-1554-0

On certain vehicles, there is not sufficient space between the plunger and the barrel of the fuel injector, due to improper assembling process of the injector, and the O-ring is deformed and/or damaged, losing sealing efficiency, in which case fuel can mix into engine oil. If this problem is left unattended, the oil amount in the oil pan may increase, and consequently, fuel mixed engine oil may enter into the inlet pipe through the blow by hose, in which case the engine revolutions could increase. A similar problem was reported as RJ-0966-0 on 23rd July 2003, but this recall is to report a different cause and a different countermeasure, and also to rectify the affected vehicle details.

Case Number:
RJ-1554-0

Make/model:

Issued:
Fri, 2005-11-04
Component:
engine (fuel injector)
Affected:
12 595
Correction:
The fuel injector should be replaced with a non-defective one. Incidentally, it will take time to supply all the parts, and therefore, as a temporary measure, the oil should be checked for a fuel mix up, and if a fuel leak is found, the replacement should be carried out, otherwise, the regular check method should be explained and the replacement should be done at a later date.
