On certain vehicles with diesel engine, (1) There is a glitch in the computer program that controls an automatic particulate matter (PM) removal function of the diesel particulate filter (DPF). Because of this, that function is activated, even when manual PM removal is needed. As a result, the temperature in the DPF may rise abnormally, damaging the exhaust temperature sensor, and this may lead to an illumination of the engine warning light. At worst, the DPF gets damaged, and PM emissions may exceed the standard. (2) The automatic PM removal function may fail to perform with frequent accelerator operations because of the same computer program glitch as (1). As a result, PM may get accumulated inside the DPF. If left unfixed, the DPF light is illuminated frequently, requiring manual PM removal.

Correction: 
The computer should be replaced with the factory approved replacement unit. Also, the DPF and the exhaust temperature sensor should be inspected, and the one with any damage should be replaced with a new one.
