The electrical load on the switch for the brake lights is too great for the contact point, and therefore oxide can be accumulated, which increases the resistance of the contact point. At worst, electrical continuity is lost at the contact point causing the brake lights to fail.

Correction: 
The brake lights switch should be replaced with the factory approved replacement unit, and the connecting wire should be added or replaced. For V35 coupe, the relay should also be added.
