The pipes of the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system do not have sufficient strength, and therefore they may crack from expansion and contraction due to exhaust heat or engine vibration. If this problem is left unattended, the cracks may grow causing the noise level to increase. In addition, there is a possibility that the fire alarm in the engine compartment may go off due to high temperature exhaust gas blown out from the cracks into the engine compartment.
