On certain vehicles, the thickness of the bracket (the right one of the two) securing the steering rack on the crossmember is too thin, and it may be damaged from frequent dry steering. The damaged bracket can cause abnormal noise and increase steering wheel play, which at worst could result in unreliable steering control.
