On certain vehicles, there is not sufficient clearance for the spool valve in the power steering pump, which is to keep the internal pump pressure under a specified level. If foreign materials such as sand are present in the power steering fluid and they become stuck in the valve, the internal pressure may rise and the inside of the pump may be damaged, in which case the pump could fail to generate pressure, resulting in heavier steering. Note: This problem was submitted as KJ-0259-0 on the 19th August 2004, but some vehicles exempted from that recall list have been discovered to have the same problem, so they are added to the recall list with this submission.
