For vehicles with diesel engine, engine vibration can break the hydraulic pipe stay that is welded on the power steering oil tank due to insufficient strength of the stay. If the breakage is left unattended, in the worst case, the stay may come off with the welded part, creating a hole in the tank, and this results in oil leakage and heavier steering.
Case Number:
RJ-0415-1
Make/model:
Issued:
Thu, 1993-05-27
Component:
power steering
Affected:
14 726
Correction:
The brackets that secure the hydraulic pipe on the stay should be removed, and the bracket securing the oil pulsation absorber should be replaced with the factory approved replacement unit. In addition, the welded part on the oil tank should be inspected, and if it is damaged, the oil tank should be replaced with a new one.
Identification:
On the right hand side of the diagram, 'before the factory approved replacement' is shown in the above box and 'after the factory approved replacement' is shown in the below box.
