When the engine compression brake is operated, excessive load may be imposed on the turbine blades of the turbocharger, due to improper setting of its variable nozzle opening. If left unfixed, the turbine blades may get damaged, making abnormal noises. At worst, the vehicle emits black smoke.

Correction: 
The electronic control unit which controls the variable nozzle should be replaced with the factory approved replacement unit. If any damage is found on inspection on the turbine blades of the turbocharger, the turbocharger should be replaced with a new one.
