RJ-0779-0

For the electrically controlled brake system (ECB), a foreign material caught in the brake actuator can prevent the fail safe function for the event that hydraulic pressure falls from functioning, because the ECB that is defective in manufacturing does not properly control the electric pump for generating brake pressure. If this happens, the brake warning light is illuminated and the warning buzzer sounds, and 5 minutes later, the protective function of the pump is activated to stop the pump. As a result, the hydraulic pressure decreases, and braking distance increase.

Case Number:
RJ-0779-0

Make/model:

Issued:
Tue, 2001-11-06
Component:
brake computer
Affected:
3 345
Correction:
(1) The prefix of the serial/lot number on the brake actuator should be checked, and if it is between KC06 and KI11, the actuator should be replaced with a non-defective one. (2) The brake computer should be replaced with the factory approved replacement unit.
