For vehicles with automatic transmission, the contact points of the brake lights switch are made of improper material, and they may heat due to the discharge. If this occurs, in the worst case, (1) the shaft in the switch may deform and stop functioning, which will make it impossible to release the shift lock, and/or (2) the brake lights may fail to illuminate or may keep going on.
