The water and dustproof rubber boot for the wheel cylinder of the air parking brake may become deformed, failing to maintain the air-tightness, because improper lubricant was used. If left unfixed, water may get into the rubber boot, causing rust between the wheel cylinder and the piston. As a result, the parking brake does not function fully, or brake fade occurs in the main brake system.

Correction:
For the left and right wheels, the rod and the rod guide should be inspected. If any rust is found, the wheel cylinder assembly should be replaced with the factory approved replacement unit, which includes the factory approved replacement clevis, and bands should be fitted on the both ends of the rubber boot. If no rust is found, the clevis should be replaced with the factory approved replacement unit, and the boot should be replaced with a new one, fitting additional bands.
