For police vehicles, the wire cable that receives the speed signal from the manual transmission can break from metal fatigue due to improper wiring, and in which case both the speed radar system and the speedometer stop working.

Correction:
For vehicles with Matsushita or Calsonic Kansei speed radar system, the wire cable and the distributor of the speed signal should be removed, and the speedometer and the harnesses should be replaced with the factory approved replacement units. For vehicles with Mitsubishi speed radar system, the direction converter should be additionally installed at the transmission end of the cable, and the wire cable and the distributor of the speed signal should be replaced with the factory approved replacement units.
