On certain vehicles, the welding of the bracket (the right side one of the two) that braces the steering rack on the crossmember in the steering unit is improper. For this reason, frequent dry steering (the practice of turning the wheels of the vehicle without the vehicle moving) may damage the welded part. If this happens, it could cause abnormal noises and increase steering wheel play, in the worst case resulting in unreliable steering control.

The welded part of the bracket should be inspected, and if found inadequate, the crossmember should be replaced with a non-defective one.
