RJ-1084-0

For petrol engine vehicles with automatic transmission, capacity of the vacuum brake booster (master vac) is insufficient. Because of this, when the engine idling RPM increases due to automatic engine warming, the braking power may not be sufficient enough for the creeping torque of the torque converter. In addition, if the refrigerator compressor etc. is in operation at the same time, damping force may decrease furthermore. As a result, if the gear is put in D while the engine is not warm enough, operating a brake pedal may not stop the vehicle from moving.

Case Number:
RJ-1084-0

Make/model:

Issued:
Mon, 2004-05-17
Component:
vacuum brake booster
Affected:
410
Correction:
The master vac should be replaced with the factory approved replacement unit. Also, for vehicles with refrigerator compressor, the engine control unit should be replaced with the factory approved replacement unit. It will take time to provide the factory approved replacement engine control unit, so the following temporary measure should be taken at the time of replacing the master vac; a warning plate should be placed to tell a driver not to start the vehicle until the temperature of engine coolant increases.
Identification:
(1) Gold sticker with a diameter of 9mm below the striker on the passenger door rear pillar, for taking the factory approved replacement. (2) Silver sticker with a diameter of 9mm below the striker on the passenger door rear pillar, for taking the temporary measure.
