There is a glitch in the computer program that controls the continuous variable transmission, and because of it, quickly operating the accelerator pedal after moving the shift lever into a forward or backward position can cause slippage between the drive pulley and the metal belt, and the belt elements may become overheated. In such a case, the elements could become damaged causing the belt to disintegrate, and as a result the vehicle stalls.
