For vehicles with independent front suspension, the water prevention measures of the bearings inside the front wheel hubs are improper, and therefore, muddy water can enter into the bearings and cause rust and/or wear. If this problem is left unattended, vibration and abnormal noise may be generated, and in the worst case, the bearings could be damaged causing the vehicle to stall. This recall is to revise the past recall (case number RJ-0952-0, issued on 9 June 2003) and to include more vehicles because the factory approved replacement in the past recall was not sufficient.

Correction:
The covers to prevent water from entering into the bearings inside the front wheel hubs should be replaced with the factory approved replacement units (for vehicles with ABS, the replacement includes the ABS rotor), and the hub oil seals and the oil seal retainers should be replaced with new ones. The bearings which water has penetrated should be replaced with new ones. Incidentally, it will take time to supply all the factory approved replacement units, and therefore as a temporary measure, the parts should be inspected, and the hub bearings, the oil seals, the oil seal retainers, the hub grease, or the hub covers with an abnormality found should be replaced with new ones.
