RJ-1443-0

The way in which the clamps to secure the fuel injection pipes are fastened is not appropriate, and therefore, when the rubber parts of the clamps deteriorate, the bolts and the nuts can become loose, and they and the clamps may fall off. If this occurs, the fallen part could be caught between the starter motor and the terminal causing a short circuit, and in the worst case, the starter harness could be damaged resulting in engine start failure or leading to a fire. This problem was reported in RJ-1254-0, submitted on 29th September 2004, but the vehicles to be recalled were not fully accounted for, so this recall is to list additional vehicles.

Case Number:
RJ-1443-0

Make/model:

Issued:
Wed, 2005-06-01
Component:
fuel system (clamps for fuel injection pipes)
Affected:
200
Correction:
Depending on the way in which the clamp is fastened, the following measures should be taken. (1) If the clamp is secured with bolt, the bolt should be replaced with the factory approved replacement unit that includes the spring washer, and adhesive should be applied on the bolt threads. (2) If the clamp is secured with nut, the nut with flange should be replaced with the factory approved replacement unit that does not have flange, adhesive should be applied on the tap-end stud threads, and the nut should be tightened with the additional spring washer and the tap-end stud. In addition to (1) and (2), the condition of the rubber parts should be checked, and the clamp with deteriorated rubber part should be replaced with a new one. Also, the warning sticker about the maintenance points should be placed on the upper side of the engine.
