RJ-2135-0

For vehicles with twin clutch automatic transmissions, the reverse gear may fail to lock into place, even when the shift lever is placed into the R position. If this occurs and the driver doesn't know it as the shift lever indicator shows 'R', the vehicle on a downward slope may travel forward, or the vehicle may suddenly go backwards if the reverse gear naturally locks into place while the driver keeps depressing the accelerator pedal.

Correction:
The programs of the electrical control units (for shift lever unit and transmission unit) should be changed, so that if the reverse gear fails to lock into place, the shift indicator will start blinking, and the reverse position warning buzzer will sound at a shorter interval to warn the driver. In addition, the vehicle owners should be notified about the problem and the countermeasures, and the manual should be modified to reflect these changes.
