On certain vehicles, the pinion shaft bearing in the steering gear can be damaged due to improper processing. If the damage is left unattended, the pinion shaft moves towards the axle inside the steering gear, and in the worst case the power steering hydraulic system fails to function properly resulting in decreased power assist for steering.
