RJ-1638-0

The clamps that secure the fuel injection pipes are not fastened in an appropriate way, and therefore, when the rubber parts of the clamps deteriorate, the bolts and the nuts can become loose, and they and the clamps may fall off. If this occurs, the fallen part could be caught between the starter motor and the terminal, causing a short circuit, and in the worst case, the starter harness could be damaged, which could result in an engine start failure or lead to a fire. Note: This problem was reported in RJ-1254-0 submitted on 29th September 2004 and in RJ-1443-0 submitted on 1st June 2005, but the vehicles to be recalled were not correctly accounted for, so this recall is to add some vehicles to the recall list.

Case Number:
RJ-1638-0

Make/model:

Issued:
Wed, 2006-03-15
Component:
fuel system (clamps for fuel injection pipes)
Affected:
3
Correction:
Depending on the way in which the clamp is fastened, the following measures should be taken. (1) If the clamp is secured with bolt, the bolt should be replaced with the factory approved replacement unit that includes the spring washer, and adhesive should be applied on the bolt threads. (2) If the clamp is secured with nut, the nut with flange should be replaced with the factory approved replacement unit that does not have a flange, adhesive should be applied on the tap-end stud threads, and the nut should be tightened with the additional spring washer and the tap-end stud. In addition to (1) and (2), the condition of the rubber parts should be checked, and the clamp with deteriorated rubber part should be replaced with a new one. Also, the warning sticker about the maintenance points should be placed on the upper side of the engine.
