This recall concerns a spring-type parking brake system. (1) The screws to secure the watertight caps were not properly hammered down, and therefore, water may enter the spring chambers, which might cause the springs to rust. If this occurs, the springs may break, and subsequently the diaphragms might be damaged, which could allow air to escape, and in the worst case, the parking brake would be activated while the vehicle is in motion. (2) The elbow sections of the pipes that connect the spring chamber and the service brake chamber may crack with age due to unsuitable material, in which case, water may enter the spring chambers and cause the springs to rust. If this occurs, the springs may break, and subsequently the diaphragms might be damaged, which could allow air to escape, and in the worst case, the parking brake would be activated while the vehicle is in motion.
