On certain rear tandem axle vehicles (rear-rear axle : dead axle), the trunnion bases for the rear axles do not have sufficient strength, and therefore, they may crack, for example, due to stress caused when holding the steering wheel at full lock for a turn. If this problem is left unattended, the cracks may grow, and in the worst case, the bases may break, which would cause the vehicle to stall.
