For the fuel gauge, the circuit board may suffer from heat expansion/contraction from the heat of the light in the instrument panel, and the circuit could eventually break. If this occurs, the gauge may give a higher reading than the actual value, and at worst the driver may run out of the fuel without knowing, in which case the engine could stall while the vehicle is being driven and fail to restart.
