On certain vehicles, there is abrasion left on the spline part of the pinion gear shaft of the transverse gearbox, because the instruction of the past recall was inadequate. If this problem is left unattended, excessive stress can be put on the transverse gearbox attachment section of the flywheel housing due to the eccentric rotation of the drive shaft between the transmission and the transverse gearbox, and at worst the attachment section could rupture, causing the transverse gearbox to fall off, in which case the vehicle will stall. This recall is to override the past recall (case number RJ-0571-0), which was submitted on 25th May 1999 and was inappropriate.
