Motorists who approve or disapprove of the proposed changes to the Warrant of Fitness system need to comment by the end of today.
Clive Matthew-Wilson, editor of the car review website dogandlemon.com – which is strongly opposed to the changes – says the government’s WOF changes have been very deceptively packaged.
“The government has done a brilliant job of presenting the changes to the vehicle licensing system as a measure to save ordinary motorists time and money. Actually, the average motorist will save very little and may lose a lot.”
“Most of the public is completely unaware that, as part of these WOF changes, the government plans to hire a private police force to check ordinary peoples’ vehicles at random, even though these vehicles may have a current WOF.” 1
“At present, roadside inspections are conducted solely by the police. The public has confidence in the police. It is alarming to think that rent-a-cops on low wages could start pulling over vehicles which already completely legal.”
