The government’s $400,000 ad campaign aimed at reducing cycle deaths is a waste of money, says the car review website dogandlemon.com

Cars with their lights on are up to 25% less likely to end up in a fatal daytime collision this Christmas, says the car review website dogandlemon.com.

Dogandlemon.com editor Clive Matthew-Wilson – who is an active road safety campaigner – says:

“The science is absolutely clear: if other motorists can see you, they can avoid colliding with you. Pedestrians are also less likely to blindly walk out in front of your car.”

In Europe, all vehicles are required to have lights on at all times.

Three respected experts have strongly criticised the police anti-speed ad campaign.

Criminology professor Greg Newbold, road safety campaigner Clive Matthew-Wilson and marketing expert Dr Terry Macpherson, say:

“This feelgood police anti-speeding ad campaign is clearly aimed at happy holiday families. Unfortunately, the government’s own research shows that happy holiday families rarely cause fatal accidents.”

Matthew-Wilson, who edits the car review website dogandlemon.com, adds:

Proposals to lower ACC levies for safer cars will simply hand over money to wealthy car owners, without improving road safety, says the car review website dogandlemon.com.

Under the ACC proposals, annual licensing fees for owners of light passenger vehicles with the highest safety rating will fall by $92, while fees for vehicles with the lowest safety rating will fall by less than $10.
